Description

“After a good wash and rinse, the coat is clear but unprotected. I wanted more than surface care — I wanted a step that sealed everything in. ForgeSeal™ was built for that reason. It’s not about shine or quick fixes, it’s about leaving the horse with a finish that feels nourished, balanced, and supported for the long run.”

ForgeSeal™ – The finishing strength of the Ironhide Grooming System.
A solid balm bar crafted with natural butters, waxes, clays, and infused oils. Designed to follow ForgeClean™ and RinseCore™, it provides the final stage of care — helping to condition, protect, and lock in the coat’s natural balance. Where most grooming ends, ForgeSeal™ begins its work.

More than a surface treatment.
Each bar is hand-poured in small batches, fully traceable, and tested for stability and consistency. Every ingredient is selected for purpose — from protective waxes to conditioning butters and mineral clays. Nothing is filler, nothing is “just because.”

Built for durability.
ForgeSeal™ is made to last. A firm balm bar that holds together in use, ensuring long wear and reliable conditioning with every application. It reflects the same commitment to care, detail, and resilience that defines the Ironhide system.

Ingredient Breakdown

Every element in ForgeSeal™ is selected with intent.
Built to condition, protect, and support the coat after washing, forming a light, breathable layer without heaviness or residue.

  • White Beeswax – long valued in grooming and care for creating a protective barrier that helps shield against environmental exposure. Adds firmness and longevity to the bar.
  • Shea Butter – traditionally used for its richness in fatty acids, helping to soften and condition the coat while leaving a smooth, lasting feel.
  • Mango Butter – prized for its lighter texture compared to shea, offering easy absorption and a soft, non-greasy finish.
  • Babassu Oil – a gentler alternative to coconut oil, known for producing a clean, conditioning effect without heaviness.
  • Herbal-Infused Olive Oil – slow-infused in-house with calendula, chamomile, and comfrey. Traditionally, these herbs have been associated with soothing support, resilience, and coat conditioning.
  • Neem Oil – historically used in equine care for its strong, distinctive properties and natural protective reputation.
  • Castor Oil – dense and glossy, chosen for its ability to add glide and enhance conditioning.
  • Arrowroot Powder – used to improve application feel, helping the bar glide evenly while reducing excess greasiness.
  • Kaolin Clay – a gentle mineral clay traditionally used to provide slip, absorb excess oils, and give a clean, balanced finish.
  • Colloidal Oat Flour – long recognised for its skin-supportive compounds, traditionally used to calm irritation and add resilience.
  • Zinc Oxide – widely used in care formulations for its protective qualities and ability to support barrier function.
  • Vitamin E Oil – a natural antioxidant that helps support product stability and adds to the conditioning feel.
  • Essential Oils (Lavender, Tea Tree, Myrrh) – included at balanced levels for their traditional roles in grooming. Lavender is often associated with calm, Tea Tree with a clean, sharp scent, and Myrrh with long-valued protective qualities.

What this means in practice

A conditioning layer that supports without suffocating,
protecting the coat while allowing it to breathe naturally.
Something unlike anything else out there!

Caution:
ForgeSeal™ contains natural essential oils (Lavender, Tea Tree, Myrrh), which in rare cases may cause a mild allergic reaction. This is noted as a precaution and is standard for products with essential oils. We use them at carefully balanced, low levels – enough to give purpose, but never excessive. While safely diluted. Always patch test before first use.

Yes, ForgeSeal™ has been formulated with balance in mind, using carefully selected oils, butters, and clays that are well tolerated by most horses. It has been formulated with careful consideration of how a horse’s skin responds to ingredients over time, including the levels of raw materials used and always with sensitive horses in mind.

As with any new product though, we still recommend patch testing before first use to see how your horse responds.

ForgeSeal™ is designed to be well-balanced and suitable for regular use, and it’s well tolerated by the vast majority of horses. As with any new product, individual sensitivities can vary and we recommend patch testing on a small area before first use.

If any irritation occurs, stop use and rinse the area well with water.

If you have any concerns, please feel free to get in touch.

No. ForgeSeal™ is made using a controlled blend of oils, clays, and essential oils, carefully balanced for equine use.

Every ingredient and the final formula has been independently reviewed by veterinary toxicologists from the Veterinary Poisons Information Service (VPIS), who assess product safety based on real-world exposure risks.

This review process helps ensure the product is considered safe for horses when used correctly.
Most grooming products aren’t reviewed at this level!

No. ForgeSeal™ is designed to leave a light, breathable finish, not a heavy or greasy layer.

It uses a balanced blend of oils and waxes that settle into the coat and dry down naturally, rather than sitting on the surface.

When first applied, the coat may feel slightly coated to the touch, but this evens out as it absorbs.

When used as intended (typically 1–2 times per week), it conditions the coat without buildup. Over-application or excessive use may lead to heaviness, which is why a controlled, light application is key.

For best results, apply lightly in the direction of hair growth, allowing the bar to glide over the coat rather than pressing heavily. Avoid long hair such as the mane, tail, and feathers unless applying very sparingly.

A horse’s skin naturally produces its own oils to maintain balance. ForgeSeal™ works alongside this by using a balanced combination of waxes, oils, and powders that sit lightly on the coat, rather than forming a thick, occlusive layer.

This allows the coat and skin to function as they normally would, while still being supported and protected from the outside.

When applied lightly, it works with the coat’s natural surface rather than building up or trapping it.

While we always recommend using the full system to get the best results, ForgeSeal™ can still be used outside of the grooming system with other products as it was designed to condition and protect the coat effectively.

ForgeSeal™ must be applied to a clean coat.
Applying it to a clean surface allows the product to sit correctly and perform as intended. If used on a dirty coat, it can hold onto existing dirt or buildup, affecting the overall finish.

It’s the final step of a three-part system, but it still does what it’s meant to do by itself, leaving a light, breathable protective layer across the coat.

The difference is in how it performs as part of the system. ForgeClean™ removes dirt, sweat, and buildup properly, RinseCore™ helps rebalance the coat after washing, and ForgeSeal™ then supports and protects that result.

Independently reviewed using veterinary toxicology standards

We didn’t want to release something and hope it was safe.

If a product is going onto a horse regularly, it should be properly understood, not guessed.

So we put ForgeSeal™ through a full safety process before it was ever offered to customers.

What we did:

  • Stability tested under real conditions
  • Assessed through a full toxicology review
  • Reviewed by veterinary toxicologists from the Veterinary Poisons Information Service (VPIS), the same service equine vets rely on when assessing risk in animals

This is as close as you can get to real-world equine safety assessment without testing directly on horses.

It’s a level of assessment most grooming products never go through.

The outcome was clear.

No significant toxicological concerns were identified when used as directed.

Below are the supporting documents for ForgeSeal™.
Each one shows a different part of how the product has been assessed for safety and consistency.

Veterinary Toxicology Review (VPIS) (197 KB)
Safety Data Sheet (SDS) (228 KB)

Apply a thin, even layer of ForgeSeal to a clean coat, Ideally while the coat is slightly damp. Work gently in the direction of hair growth. Suitable for use on the horse's full body coat.
Avoid applying to long hair such as the tail, mane and feathers, as it may build up over time. Do not apply excessively thick layers as this may lead to build up. Always patch test before use.

Recommended use is 1-2 times per week for general maintenance, or up to 2-3 times per week for horses with dry or scurfy skin. When reapplying, Always thoroughly wash the coat before hand.

For best results, ForgeSeal is designed to be used little and often rather than in heavy amounts. Start with a light application 1–2 times per week and observe how your horse’s coat responds over time. If the coat feels drier or needs more support, you can increase to 2–3 times per week, keeping layers thin and even. Applying to a slightly damp coat helps it spread more easily and avoids overuse in one area. Because ForgeSeal forms a light, protective layer, we recommend washing the coat before reapplication, as applying over a dirty coat can trap dirt.
